“It’s not true I had nothing on. I had the radio on.”

We printed these 2 color prints for designer, Ross Moody of 55 Hi’s and we think they look pretty neat. We printed them on our Vandercook 4 and oh what a joy. If they bring you joy and happiness too, go grab yourself one here!

Big & Ass, Why Not?
Posted on October 14th, 2011 // Letterpress, News, Posters & Prints, Printing //

A while back we offered our awesome alt rock radio station, X96, some gift certificates for a promotion they were running. We have always had our hearts set on working with our beloved Radio from Hell crew. Even if you’re not in Utah, you can listen to their morning show here.

So, to get their attention, we thought we’d print something just for Radio from Hell. We decided a promotional piece for their show would be great since we think radio is an important medium and we don’t think it gets enough tangible love. So, we made a kick ass poster for Radio from Hell. Just like the good ol’ days. It was designed by our very own Sky Bitzer. We maxed out the Vandercook 4 with this 2 color, 11″ x 15″ print. We loved it and, so did the RFH crew. Success!

After seeing our awesomeness, they asked if we would create a supplemental poster to be sold in limited quantity at their yearly, Big Ass Show. Yay! Again, our amazing talent, Sky Bitzer, designed this 20′ x 26″ print. We printed the bulk of them in red with a few in black (for funsies). In Big Ass fashion, we made the poster Big & Assy. We had to rig 2 plates together for it to be large enough for our taste.

We printed it on our awesome S Cylinder (which we’re always talking about cause we love it so).

Keep an eye out for our next adventure, it’s got something to do with Radio from Hell, us, & beer. Super win win.

Invite Suite [Read: Sweet]
Posted on September 14th, 2011 // Invitations, Letterpress, Printing //

Going along with the something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue tradition – we give you this post.

A while back we printed some amazing wedding invites for Josh & Lauren. The invite was featured in Utah Bride & Groom, yay! Regretfully, the appropriate credit wasn’t given and we feel the need to set it right. Merrilee Liddiard aka, Tuesday Morning, is the illustrator (seriously sweet, no?) and Josh Wangrud is the designer. This invite has been amongst our most asked about and rightfully so.

Something old (check).

Something borrowed ( well, borrowed credit, check).

We thought we’d piggy back this other invite, since it has been asked about as of late too. The 3-color invite suite especially pulls at our heart strings. Something about the perfect ratio of simple to sweet that equals us loving it.

Something new (check).

Something blue (check).

Life is a Luminous Halo, a Semi-transparent Envelope
Posted on September 1st, 2011 // Inspiration, Invitations, Letterpress, News, Printing //

More than not, people are so excited about a creative design they forget about the envelope. Don’t fall victim to having to change your gorgeous design in the end to accommodate a regular sized envelope. It’s best to have a full scope of your project from the beginning, including the envelope. Because we get asked about envelopes and sizes often, here is a little checklist or list of things to consider when designing an invite or something that needs mailing or delivering:

Size

An unusual size will require a more creative delivery method. Unless you’re into hand-making envelopes, we suggest you stick to a standard size. Here are some common sizes:

Most Announcement envelopes are called A-style sizing:

A-1 (or 4bar) : 3.625″ x 5.125″

A-2 : 4.375″ x 5.75″

A-6 : 4.75″ x 6.5″

A-7 : 5.25″ x 7.25″

A-8 : 5.5″ x 8.125″

A-9 : 5.75″ x 8.75″

A-10 : 6″ x  9.75″

These are just a few of the most common announcement sizes. Of course there are many square standard envelopes, etc. We suggest looking around at envelope sizes to get a feel for general sizing options.

Following one of these standard sizes will make your life easier.

Flap

What the flap?! Seriously though, some envelopes only come in a pointed flap option and some only with a squared flap. Some might come with both options. Just make sure you get this sorted out before you commit to a size.

Function

Yes, the function of an envelope is a no-brainer. Its function is to protect and deliver. However, you might consider that a postcard might serve your invite or announcement well. It will save a few cents in postage to boot. Unless, of course, you’d like your RSVP status to remain a secret until received (you know so that your friends don’t see that you personally scribbled in a note requesting an ovolactavegamicobiologicosmic-gluten free entree choice).

In short, just make sure that you don’t forget to design for and with the envelope in mind.
